History

Lassen County was created in 1864 from territories of the

county of Plumas and the county of Shasta. Its name is

derived from the Lassen Peak which was named after

Peter Lassen, one of the guides of General John C.

Fremont and a known trapper. This county contains the

Lassen Volcano National Park, as well as many lakes. 

Geography

According to the Census Bureau, Lassen County has a

total area of ​​12,224.7 km²; of which land is 11,802.6 km²

and 422.2 km² (3.46%) is water.
